Tutoring

At Mostly Math, tutoring is always one-to-one. Our tutors have advanced degrees, at least twenty years' teaching experience, and are skilled at designing a program tailor-made for each student.

In math, our tutoring methods stress the integration of conceptual understanding with quantitative skills.We are specialists in teaching all levels of math, including pre-algebra, algebra, pure geometry, analytic geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and calculus AB/BC.

In tutoring English, we stress clarity and cogency in writing, precision in grammar, and critical thinking in reading comprehension. For word study, we employ our MMLC Semantic Grouping^SM technique, which helps students quickly increase their mastery of vocabulary skills.

In all academic areas, we stress �learning how to learn�, so that the student progresses steadily towards becoming an independent thinker, ready to take on the challenges of a competitive world.

Test Preparation

Whether it's a high school diploma, undergraduate or graduate college admission, or professional advancement, a lot is riding on today's high-stakes tests. We have helped hundreds of students succeed on the SAT, SAT Subject Tests, SSAT, PSAT, ACT, CLEP, GRE, GMAT, PPST, ASVAB, GED, and state exams such as NY Regents, CAHSEE, TAKS, & NPE, as well as many other standardized tests.

At Mostly Math, we understand that each student has a different background and learning style, and that test preparation classes are ineffective for many students. We find that the best way to prepare students to excel on these tests is through one-to-one guidance by an expert tutor through actual exam material, remediating misunderstood areas as they become apparent. In addition to ensuring that the student understands the test material, we teach basic test-taking strategies such as time-management, backsolving, error-checking techniques, and many more.
